Hip Hop dance is a very broad category of dance that is usually performed to popular hip hop music. Under the main title of hip hop, there are many sub-styles of hip hop that dance students may study. Breaking, popping, and locking are all examples of hip hop styles.

History 

Beginning as a street style, hip hop gained mainstream exposure in the 1980s when hip hop crews were showcased on Soul Train. This led to a huge surge of dance studio based versions of hip hop dance. Here at L.A. Dance, we offer many different hip hop classes to dancers of all ages and levels!

Break Dancing

B-Boying/B-Girling Breakdancing, professionally known as breakin' or b-boying, started in the Bronx, New York during the late 1970s. It is the original dance style within the Hip Hop culture. Its popularity has grown significantly over many years and is now a favorite amongst dancers all over the world! Here at L.A. Dance NJ PAC, we are proud to offer the very best training in breakin' to our talented students. No matter what age, starting from our boys love the high energy and agile dance form and even our youngest boys can bust a move. But breakdancing isn’t specific to boys. Girls can have a blast dancing this style too! Students learn the four primary elements of breaking: toprock, downrock, power moves, and freezes.
